Summer News
(May 31)

Well, it is not quite summer here in the mountains, but getting close, and we've probably now had our last snow of the season.

It's also plein-air time, and it's great to get outdoors and paint. I have long felt that, although most of my work is done in the comfort of the studio, my best studio paintings would not be possible without the good habits built while observing life and painting from life. These habits need to be renewed frequently. I normally paint outdoors with other painters, and of course that is the other benefit -- a break from the solitude of the long hours in the studio, and the comraderie of those engaged in a common struggle.

Referring back to my winter news, I'm pleased to say that the solo show in Washington DC was very well received. The show is now over but the gallery (Susan Calloway Fine Arts) still has an excellent selection of my paintings, so if you are visiting Washington or live there, I hope you'll get a chance to stop by.

We also had successful spring shows in Houston and Dallas, and as usual enjoyed the great Texas hospitality. A big THANK YOU to all of the customers who made the successful shows in Washington and Texas possible. The next shows will be in Chicago...I lived there for two years in my younger days and always enjoy a return visit to the great metropolis.
